And the award goes to…

27.02.11 | Tara | 5 Comments

I love the Oscars. The Glitz, The Glamour, The Red Carpet, The Tears, The Movie Montages. The Dresses. Love.

Hats off to Anne Hathaway – who carried the hosting all on her own tiny, yet insanely charming shoulders. James Franco: dude, what happened? How adorable was Anne in that skinny tuxedo and glitter shoes? And I seriously could not get over her amazing sparkly eyelashes. You’re lovely darling – great job.

Here are my picks for Best Dressed:

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Collection dress & Louis Vuitton jewelry

Perfectly styled – everything from the hair, to the subtle gold makeup to those killer earrings. This is a totally of -the-moment fashionista look (hello 70s chic!), which often does not translate well on to the Oscar Red Carpet, but she truly killed it. My absolute favorite.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy

This dress is a serious work of art  – photographs can’t really do it any justice . I love the contrast of the sculptural top and the flowy goddess bottom. On the TV screen you could see all of the bead and embellishment work and the lavender and yellow color. I hope you all caught a glimpse! Incredible. Cate was the perfect lady to wear this and pull it off, too.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa

Hailee’s totally adorable  (she’s 14!) and this dress is perfect and darling on her.  I love the sheer top encrusted with rhinestones and the tea length. The ribbon headband and the polished ballerina bun were the cherry on top. Again, photographs don’t really do this one justice, and she sparkled like a princess on the red carpet on my HD TV.

 Mila Kunis in Elie Saab

Such a pretty color on her with her olive skin and dark hair – and really beautifully crafted draping. I loved the flowing lace on the bottom of the dress. Mila also gets points in my book for her décolletage while she was presenting with Justin Timberlake. Anyone who can pull off what looked like classy pasties at the Oscars is a winner in my book.

As you know if you read my blog often enough, I love the sisters Rodarte. However, I was a little underwhelmed with the dress they designed for Natalie Portman. definitely a difficult task to create a dress for the very pregnant Oscar nominee frontrunner, but nonetheless, I personally thought it could have been better. And maybe it’s because I had really high expectations? Feel free to disagree. I did love the color on her though and I thought her makeup and hair looked immaculate- she looked so beautiful accepting her well-deserved award. And I also really, really loved those Tiffany & Co. tassel earrings.

What did you think? Who were your favorites?

Well done My Tara! I love your choices. I must say though I think the first dress Anne Hathaway wore was a standout for me. The red “Archival” Valentino was amazing. Also, I loved Nicole Kidmans dress and her low key hair and makeup.

    Nigh, night sweetie.

    Kisses,
    Robin

I loved Mila Kunis dress, one of my favorites of the evening. I agree about Natalie Portman’s dress, while the color was stunning on her, it just did not wow me.

And yes, James Franco, what happened? I love this dude and I was expectitng more from him!

I completely agree with your choices and would add the incredible Dior dress and jewelry on Nicole Kidmen. James Franco looked uncomfortable all night. Anne carried the show and had fun doing it! How about the tuxedo and “those” shoes!!!! and that blue number too.

Pam – best necklace definately goes to Nicole Kidman. When I saw it up close on the screen my jaw dropped – amazing! I also liked Anne’a Blue sheath number.

i agree with all of your choices…cate is just a goddess. overall, i was pretty underwhelmed by most of the dresses. i thought natalie’s dress was the best of all the ones she wore during the awards show season and the color was great on her, but it didn’t have that wow factor.

We’ll see where I take this but in the mean time it’s fun to switch it up and say I do both 😉. It will be hard for me to never be a snowboarder girl 🏂 again and I’m so proud of my skills there, but it’s also nice to stand up properly and not have my bum freeze from constantly sitting on the snow, and get off the chair with ease 🤣. Also cheers to new ski friends (some of my favorite kinds of friends) and isn’t this furry ski hood so cute? All the hot ski girls are doing it @courtwildson 💕! #skihood @pictureorganicclothing
