I have been taking some time over the past couple of days to catch up on my fashion and review the Milan and Paris Fashion Week shows all over the internet. It’s such a fun fantasy real-life break to watch all of the videos of the shows and pretend I’m there, like in New York. I imagine myself sitting front row next to Carine Roitfeld and Anna Della Russo. You never know… maybe someday!

The first show that really amazed and resonated with me in a big way was Hedi Slimane’s womenswear debut for Saint Lauren (recently renamed from Yves Saint Laurent) a few days ago in Paris at the Grand Palais (swoon!). It turns out the show was controversial with reviews all over the map from love to eh. I actually really loved it. It was one of the most specific and narrowly focused shows I’ve seen, in color palette (dark… and not very…spring-y) and styling. The show was indeed more or less one run on sentence of a certain look. But it was a look I totally love: a true ode to the classic Yves Saint Laurent American girl of the 1960s and 70s, think Bianca Jagger mixed with witchy Stevie Nicks, inspired by Slimane’s time spent in LA (over Paris) as Creative Director of the brand. But also with the classic Slimane masculine sophisticated edge of the tailored skinny trousers and heavy-handed black color palette that became his signature as head of Dior Homme. Kind of amazing he was able to seamlessly integrate all that, yes? Plus, what made the show dynamic is a subtle way was the layering of textures and fabric. The looks have depth to them. Lastly, it seemed to be a show that really was all about the fabulous accessories: the wide-brimmed hats, the large black bows, the t-strap heels and the tassel necklaces. I seriously dug it. I’ve had the Eagles ‘Witchy Woman’ stuck in my head ever since first viewing these photos.
